A Mountain of Infinite Donuts

What is the best news you’ve ever heard? Maybe the birth of your healthy child. Or the recovery of a gravely ill loved one. ‬‬Maybe some success in your job, passing a test, getting a promotion, receiving a certification. When these things happen to us, we rush to share this good news with people who know us. Even some who don’t.

When I had an office job, I always loved hearing the news that there were donuts in the break room. This isn’t anyone’s best news ever, but on a dreary Monday filled with meetings, I loved this little ray of sunshine. Especially because I have a big sweet tooth.

I would hurry over in case there was a limited supply. Until I sussed out the situation, I wouldn’t share the news with anyone. If there were plenty, I’d share the news of the donuts with everyone I encountered, eager to be the bearer of good news.

There were plenty of times I missed out because no one had shared the good news with me until it was too late.

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” (Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭17,‬ ‭NIV)

The real best news ever is that God loves me. He loves you, He loves me, He loves all my coworkers, He loves the guy who stocks the vending machines. He loves. And He loves big. His love is never in short supply. There is plenty for everyone.

So there is no reason to hoard the news. No reason to keep it to myself. I can be the bearer of the best news ever if I tell the people I encounter how much God loves them.

In fact, that’s exactly what God asks me to do in response to His love for me. I can get my delicious donut, or two or three, and then run out to tell everyone else about the mountain of infinite donuts available for free in the break room.

Dear God, thank you so much for the people who told me about your beautiful, abundant, and free love for me. Teach me how to spread that Good News. It’s not just for me to accept and hold in my heart. You intend for me to share it. In this way it grows and grows and fills the world!
