Looking Forward to the Sequel

Hollywood writers know that the best stories never really end. They approach a conclusion, but just when you think everything has been wrapped up neatly, they throw in a cliffhanger. The audience is left with the question, “What happens next?!”

In real life, it sure seems like everyone truly has an end. People die all the time. And we never see them again. The end. Cliffhangers and post-credit scenes where our loved one isn’t dead after all are rare in real life, unfortunately.

But God edited in the best cliffhanger to our stories when He sent His son Jesus. Suddenly, we have a hope of a sequel. And Part Two is promised to be so much better!

“Therefore my heart is glad and my whole being rejoices; my body also rests securely. For you will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful one to see decay.” (Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭9‬-‭10,‬ ‭CSB)‬‬

God promises to send Jesus back and make everything new. A new heaven and a new earth free from evil, sin, and death. He even promises me a new body. One that won’t age, break down, get sick, or hurt.

I’m really excited about that. Indeed my “whole being rejoices” at the thought. I’m really looking forward to the sequel.

Dear God, thank you so much for the body and life I have now. Teach me how to be grateful for what I have and to make the best of it, using my resources in obedience to you. Thank you also for the promise that the best is yet to come. I know your timing is perfect, but I also hope you don’t delay.
