Memorial Day weekend just passed and instead of encountering a lot of stories about gratitude for our military personnel’s sacrifices, I was bombarded with “Memorial Day Sales” ads. I’m not sure how Memorial Day came to be such a widespread sales event, for everything from furniture to skin care products, but all of the ads stressed the urgency of buying now before time runs out and while supplies last.
I don’t like admitting it, but the “while supplies last” tactic is very effective. No one likes to be without, as we learned during the pandemic when toilet paper was being hoarded in vast quantities. Shelves are emptied of food and other staples at the mention of a large storm. And if there is predicted to be a shortage of turkeys at Thanksgiving, some people will inexplicably buy two, “just to be safe.”
Scarcity is scary.
But one thing I will never have to worry about running short of is God’s grace.
God has plenty of grace to go around. Riches. He has storehouses full. A deep, deep well. Don’t worry, those supplies will last.
But, like the Memorial Day Sale, there is a time limit. The coupon for one free salvation has an expiration date. When Jesus returns, the grace window closes. All sales will be final. So act now before time runs out.
Dear God,
I’m so glad that you have more than enough love and grace to go around. Thank you for offering it to me even though I can’t afford it and don’t deserve it. I accept your free gift of salvation. Show me how to tell other people who didn’t see your sales flyer about your limited time offer.
