“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”
Psalms 119:105 CSB
When my husband bought me my first smart phone, I grumbled: Where is the keypad? How do I actually answer it when someone calls me? It doesn’t fit in my pocket as politely as my old flip phone…
But once I learned about all the “non-phone” features and how to use them, I was hooked. Now it is so integral to my everyday ability to function, I don’t want to ever be without it.
I’m not talking about social media or following trends. I don’t do TikTok or Instagram or any of that. I’m too boring for anyone to follow me and too busy to follow anyone else. I barely have time to do the things on my want-to-do list everyday so don’t want to spend any of it drawn into the vortex of cute cat videos or curating an online presence.
The apps on my phone that I do use and can’t seem to live without are ones like the flashlight and the map and, of course, the camera. These are all part of my phone but have nothing to do with making phone calls.
One more app that tops my list is the Bible app (I use YouVersion which is fantastic.) I use it every day. It is so easy and so convenient. I can search for passages, compare different translations, access commentaries and devotionals. It’s all with me all the time. As long as my phone is. What a marvelous development!
I love my smart phone because it allows me to always have a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. Literally. And figuratively.
Dear God,
I am so grateful for your word! And I am so fortunate to live in a place and time where I can access all of it anytime in my native language. At the push of a button (or the tap on an icon.) Please forgive me for taking this gift for granted. Thank you for always meeting me and teaching me when I spend time exploring your word.
