A Cure For Worrywarts

“Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭25‬ ‭CSB‬‬

One of the many things I love about my husband is how he behaves when I’m experiencing some kind of crisis. Early on in our relationship I started calling him my Knight in Shining Armor. Not because I’m often a damsel in distress whom he must rescue but because the sound of his voice has a calming effect and his words are usually logical and reasonable. He rescues me from my own spiraling worry. Just like that. It’s going to be OK.

There are times when I need more practical help, but often, just a calm, well-timed word of encouragement is enough to bring me back from the brink of panic.

I do not like that I worry. It’s ridiculous, illogical, self-defeating, and a useless waste of energy. It’s also something a believer in Jesus should never do. Even though I know these things, worry still comes knocking at my door every day.

I pray for relief and find it in God’s word. And I thank God for people like my husband with their good words.

Dear God,

I’m sorry that I waste time on worry. You tell me over and over in the Bible not to be afraid and to trust you. I do! But please help me when I forget. Thank you for my husband and the gift of calm assurance you’ve provided through him. Help me be the provider of good words to someone else who needs it.
